His important break came in when Charles Oakley was traded to the New York Knicks in exchange for the center Bill Cartwright. He afterward became the team’s major rebounder and the third best scoring choice after Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan. Not long after, he left the Bulls to join the Orlando Magic with Penny Hardaway and Shaquille O’Neal. The team made it to the 1995 Finals yet they were swept by the Houston Rockets. Before the 1999-2000 season started, he was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics. A year later, Grant was involved with a three way trade which land him to the team of the defending champ, the Los Angeles Lakers. Lakers was the champion in the 2000-01 season but Grant made a decision to leave the team and signed in with Magic. When he was removed from the Magic, he went back to Lakers for the 2003-2004 season where they lost against Detroit Pistons on the Finals.
Following the 2004 season, Horace Grant chose to retire forever.
