Bruce Arena began his career when he was in high school for the soccer team of Carey High School in NYC. He also participated for New York City’s Cosmopolitan Soccer League’s Hota S.C. for one season. As he went through school, he played for Nassau Community College’s soccer team as Arena was recognized as an All American soccer player. After he was drafted by the New York Cosmos, Arena was discharged prior to the season. Subsequently, he was contacted by former trainer of Cornell to play for Tacoma Tides. Throughout that time, he was introduced to the area of training. He managed several soccer team including University of Puget Sound, University of Virginia, D.C. United, United States U-23, New York Red Bulls and Los Angeles Galaxy. He was acknowledged as MLS Coach of the Year in 1997, 2009 and 2011.
